History:
The church was originally part of the historic Barony of Cartsburn, which was established in the 12th century by King David I. The first Church of Scotland building on the site was built in 1691, and the current building replaced it in 1818. The Mount Kirk was served by numerous ministers and elder over the years, with the last being the Rev. Stan Mortimer. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.

The Mount Kirk is one of many churches designed by Robert Adam, a prominent neoclassical architect who worked primarily in Scotland. The church is a category A listed building, which means that it is considered to be of “special architectural or historic interest”. Its distinctive spire, which has been replaced several times over the years, stands at over 115 feet in height.

The Mount Kirk is no longer a church of Scotland congregation, but it still serves as an event venue for concerts, weddings, conferences, lectures and other events.
