History:

dates back to the beginning of the 19th century when some Samoan Catholic families moved to what is now the Sagato Iosefo parish. They were from A’ana, Falealupo, Asau and Fagalii. A Catholic priest from France visited the village then, and Sagato Iosefo has since become a haven for the Catholic faith in the country. The mission church is located in Vailuutai and is now the Solomon Islands' largest Catholic parish.
