The church was founded in 1932 by the Rev. Fr. Ferdinando Fomenti, a first-generation Italian-American priest. He was passionate about providing quality spiritual care to the largely Italian-American population of the area and constructed the church that would eventually become St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Saint Lucia.

St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church was posthumously named after Father Fomenti and was originally part of a parish that included two other churches in the area. In the late 1970s, the church undertook a renovation project to update its look and to modernize its facilities. Additionally, the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The church offers Mass twice on Sundays, and daily weekday Masses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Additionally, the church hosts numerous special events, such as scripture studies and spiritual retreats. Confession and Anointing of the Sick are available by appointment.
