, The Monument to the Heroes of the First World War in Moscow is a memorial to those who fought and died on the Russian side during World War I. The monument stands in front of the walls of the Kremlin and is one of the most prominent in the city along with the Eternal Flame, which honors those who died for the Soviet Union in World War II. The monument was designed by the famous Russian architect Ivan Zholtovsky and it was unveiled in 1978. It stands 42 meters tall and is made up of three main parts. The main structure stands 33 meters tall, features two granite slabs with bas-reliefs depicting battles and portraits of Soviet officers and soldiers, and creates a gate leading onto the square in front of the walls of the Kremlin. The two additional structures on either side of the main monument are lower, including a central pedestal bearing a sculptured group of figures symbolizing warriors that survived the war, and two pyramids symbolizing the sacrifice and courage of those who fought and died in the war.
