The Roman Catholic Suburbicarian Diocese of Velletri-Segni is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in Italy. It was created on June 27, 1818 by Leo XII merging the Diocese of Velletri and the Diocese of Segni. The diocese is a suffragan of the Diocese of Rome and is currently headed by Bishop Marcello Semeraro. It contains around 40 parishes located in the Province of Rome and the Province of Latina in Lazio, Italy. It also has two annexed churches located in Viterbo. The diocese is named after the cities of Velletri and Segni, both located in the Province of Rome. Velletri is about half way between Rome and Naples on the Appian Way. Segni is located in the Sabina area, on a hill overlooking the Tiber. History The Diocese of Velletri is said to have been established in the 9th century AD, while the Diocese of Segni was established in the 5th century AD. Prior to their merger, the Diocese of Velletri was part of the Patriarchate of Rome and the Diocese of Segni was part of the Diocese of Subiaco. The diocese has been served by several Bishops throughout its history. Travel Velletri is a picturesque city with a great view towards the nearby hills. The park contains many ruins from the Republican period, such as the Dittaino sanctuary, the Temple of Diana, and the Forum Romanum, as well as remains from the Imperial period. Segni is also home to many churches, such as the Romanesque Church of San Salvatore, and the Monastery of Santa Maria della Valle.
