Museo delle mura di Roma (Museum of the Walls of Rome) is a museum that exhibits and preserves the ancient walls, towers and gates of Rome. The museum is located in the Porta San Sebastiano historical park, at the inside face of the Aurelian Walls, and includes artifacts related to the construction and defense of the city. History:
The walls of Rome were constructed by the Roman emperor Aurelian between 270 and 275 AD. The walls were designed to protect the city from barbarian invasions and pay tribute to its illustrious past. The walls were divided into 19 districts with 73 towers and 101 gates, and measure 19 km long. The walls were restored by the Popes throughout the Middle Ages to further strengthen the city's defenses. Travel:
Museo delle mura di Roma is located in the Porta San Sebastiano historical park, and can be easily accessed by Metro Line A, getting off at Garbatella station. The museum is open every day except Mondays and holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitors can also enjoy a guided tour of the park.
