Monumenti i Skënderbeut në Romë is a monument built to commemorate the 15th-century Albanian national hero, Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg. Located in Rome’s Piazza Albania, near the Basilica Santo Spirito, a former church converted into a public square, the monument was erected to honor the resistance of Skanderbeg and the Albanian people against the Ottoman forces during the 15th century. It was commissioned in 1994 by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the independence of Albania and dedicated in 1997. The monument is a bronze statue of Skanderbeg standing atop a 10-meter-high (33 feet) granite base. The statue depicts Skanderbeg in full military uniform and is set within an elaborate pedestal featuring eight bronze plaques depicting battles and events of the Ottoman War. The monument was designed by Albanian sculptor, Odhise Paskali.
