The original Church of Saint Mary of Consolation was born in July of 1881, when the then-Archbishop of Philadelphia allowed the priests of the Archdiocese to transform an old residence into a Church. The original Church wasn’t completed until the following year, however, and the first Mass was celebrated on July 10th, 1882. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.
