History:
The church was originally built in 1518 by the House of Ferrari, an influential Milanese noble family. It is believed to be the first church of Milan to be dedicated to Saint Eligio de Ferrari. The Church is also believed to have been built on the site of an earlier structure, dating back to the 11th or 12th century. In 1798, the church was almost entirely destroyed by the French during their conquest of Italy. However, it was later restored and has remained virtually the same ever since. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.
