It is a 15th century chapel, commissioned by the prominent and wealthy Carafa family and built between 1437 and 1445. The chapel is part of Santa Maria sopra Minerva church, located near the Pantheon in the historic centre of Rome. It is one of the best churches in Rome which you must visit.

History:

Cappella Carafa was commissioned by the prominent and powerful Carafa family during the 15th century, when Rome was the papal capital and the seat of power of the Catholic Church. The family, wanting to contribute to the religious and architectural history of Rome, decided to build a chapel in honor of their ancestors. The project was carried out by the renowned architect, Andrea Bregno and his workshop. They covered the existing Early Christian baptistry and created a chapel in the Classical style with a richly decorated façade, a Latin cross-plan, a dome and an ambulatory. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.
