The Bent Pyramid is an ancient Egyptian pyramid located in the city of Dahshur, approximately 40 kilometers south of Cairo. Built under the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu, it is thought to have been the first ever attempt to build a true pyramid shape with smooth walls. The pyramid has a distinctive Bent shape which is derived from the having built at a shallower angle than intended, weiting about halfway up. As a result of this abrupt change, the outer stones of the Bent pyramid appear smoother and straighter than the inner stones. History:

The Bent Pyramid is thought to have been built around 2600 BC during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu. It is believed that this is the first attempt to create a pyramid,which was then followed by the Red and Bent pyramids. It was constructed in 4 different stages, the first of which was built at a steeper angle than initially planned. Due to this the pyramid took the shape of an arc and the second stage wasn’t constructed until the structural problems, which come with the shallower angle, were solved. The base of the Bent Pyramid measures around 189m in width. Its original name is unknown and it was named after its shape in the 19th Century by the British explorer, John Shae Perring. This pyramid is the only one of its kind and the curved exterior is the result of the sudden change in angle halfway up the pyramid.
