History:

is the fortified church of Viscri, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 and a particularly well-preserved example of an Evangelical fortified church in Transylvania. It was built between 1100 and 1118 during the rule of King Géza II of Hungary. The walls of the church are up to five meters thick and the fortifications are of a traditional Transylvanian type, with external walls made out of multiple layers of stone and mortar and reinforced with four corner towers. Inside, the church contains a number of Gothic and Baroque artworks, including an 18t Century altar piece and a magnificent set of royal silverware from 1590.
