History:

The present Gothic structure is the third iteration of the church building, the first being a wooden temple built in 1222. The Church is best known as the inspiration behind the traditional Christmas carol “Wśród Nocnej Ciszy” (or “Silent Night” in English), which was first performed live at this church on December 24, 1818.
