History:

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium was opened in 1988, as a part of the Sydney Complex. The aquarium was built as part of the massive Darling Harbour waterfront redevelopment project, which saw more than 4,000 workers employed over an 18-month period. It was designed by the Australian architectural firm Peddle Thorp & Walker, with the goal of creating a multi-purpose building to accommodate more than 600,000 visitors each year, house more than 10,000 aquatic creatures, and serve as a tourist attraction. In 1997, the attraction was acquired by Meridien PLC, and in 2000 was rebranded as "SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium". Development of the attraction switched to Merlin Entertainments, and new exhibits, events and activities were added. In 2012, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium underwent a major $10.5 million renovation project to improve and expand its Marine Life collection. The renovation saw the addition of the Milky Way and Wild Seahorses exhibits, a new Shark Milk Zone, and a jellyfish and stingray display. SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium continues to develop and expand its collection and exhibits. In 2014, it opened its newest exhibit – the Jurassic Seas exhibit – which features animatronic dinosaurs. This unique experience allows visitors to step back in time and explore the prehistoric age of time. Over a million visitors a year currently visit the attraction, making it one of Sydney's most popular attractions. Visit one of the famous monuments of Australia with your friends and family.
