History:

Huaca de la Merced is a pre-Inca temple located in Trujillo, a major city on the northern coast of Peru. The temple was built by the Moche civilization which flourished in the region between the 1st and 8th centuries AD. The temple was built in the Moche style, featuring a stepped pyramid with a stepped charcoal staircase, which is believed to have been used for religious ceremonies. The temple was believed to have been dedicated to the Moche god of fertility, Si, and was used for rituals, sacrifices, and offerings to him.
