St. John the Baptist’s Greek Orthodox Church In Palestine is a historic Greek Orthodox Church located in the Palestinian city of Nablus, situated in the center of the West Bank. The Church is believed to have been built as early as the 5th century AD, for the congregation of the Orthodox Christian community of Nablus. Initially, the Church was a small basilica, with two main floors and three aisles. However, later renovations expanded the building to two naves and four aisles, shaping it to the form most commonly seen today. The Church is noted for its unique architectural design and its beautiful miniature paintings, icons and frescoes. Through the years, the Church has also held several services and ceremonies, from baptisms to weddings, and continues to be a mainstay of the Orthodox Christian community in Nablus.
