Our Lady of Palestine Greek Melkite Catholic Church In Palestine is a Roman Catholic parish located in Damascus, Syria. The parish is one of the oldest churches in the region and it was built in the year 1702. The history of the church is rooted in the Knights of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre who settled in the region during the Crusades in the eleventh century. The Knights were granted the right to build churches and the Our Lady of Palestine Greek Melkite Catholic Church was constructed in recognition of this privilege. The church still maintains its original appearance from the late 17th century, albeit with a few minor alterations made after its destruction in a conflict between the French and the Ottomans. The church has a long history of providing spiritual guidance to both Catholics and Orthodox Christians in the region. The parish celebrates the Eastern theology practiced by the Greek Melkite Catholic Church, which is one of the various Eastern churches that compose the Roman Catholic Communion. The parish also provides various services to the community of Palestinians living in Damascus.
