Mortensrud congregation is an independent Christian congregation in Oslo, Norway. It was founded in 1523 and is one of the oldest congregations in Norway. It was named after the Norwegian martyr Morten Brun who was burned at the stake by the Catholic Church in 1600. The congregation is closely associated with the Lutheran tradition. Mortensrud has a long and rich history. It played an important role in the Protestant Reformation in Norway and was a center of both spiritual and political life. For 200 years, from 1700 to 1900, the congregation was part of the Church of Norway. But today, the congregation is an independent Christian community. Mortensrud congregation provides worship services, Sunday school classes, and other activities on Sunday mornings. Members of the congregation participate in Bible studies, retreats, mission trips, and other activities throughout the year. The congregation also has a close relationship with the Norwegian Lutheran Church in America, which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Every summer, Mortensrud sends mission teams to the US to help spread the Gospel and minister to local communities.
