Fjære Church is believed to have been founded in the 12th century by the Norse Sea Kings. It was initially dedicated to St. Columba of Iona, an Irish missionary. The Church however was thoroughly remodeled in the late 16th century, with some alterations over the centuries since then. A large fire in 1863 destroyed much of the Church's original furnishings.
