The parish was established in 1887 under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a mission of St. John the Evangelist parish. The church was initially located in the small West End area of Frederick, MD and named for the patron saint of African Americans and the Caribbean, St. Moses. Over the years, the mission grew and was eventually granted full parish status in the 1940s, becoming St.Moses Catholic Church.
