History:
The parish was founded in 1907 and the church building was dedicated the following year. The first pastor was Fr. Ignatius Elias Bibus. Over the years, the parish served the German community in the area followed by the Polish and Croatian communities. From 1938 until 1968, the parish had an affiliation with St. Ferdinand Seminary, which was located in the parish rectory. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.

• Maria Assumpta is multi-lingual and celebrates Mass in Spanish, Polish and Croatian. • The church building underwent a complete interior and exterior restoration in 2011. • The bell tower was added in 1921 and stands 138' tall.

The parish offers a range of ministries and outreach programs, including a food pantry, Bible study, faith formation and Spanish-language classes. The parish also runs several music and arts programs, including a choir and organ and instrumental music.This beautiful church in Nigeria has made a lot of significance in the past.
