The Church of the Nazarene was organized as a denomination in 1908. Prior to that, the Holiness movement was organized into numerous unaffiliated and loosely connected groups. These groups were led by individuals such as Phineas Bresee, Manley and Bertha Fleming, Dr. A.M. Hills and others. As the Holiness movement became increasingly organized, the need for a united denomination became increasingly evident. The Church of the Nazarene was the result of a series of mergers in 1908, resulting in the formation of a single denomination known as the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene. In the years since its formation, the Church of the Nazarene has evolved and adapted, responding to changing needs and contexts. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Namibia.
