History:
Shri mahadevi tirth Vaishno Mata mandir is one of the oldest and most important shrines in Himachal Pradesh. The temple is situated in the Chhatrari/Khotri hills near the Tirtha Mahadevi wildlife sanctuary. The deity in the shrine is a form of goddess Durga or Vaishno Mata, the most popular form of Goddess in India. The Shrine was built and inaugurated by Guru Gorakhnath over 1300 years ago and is said to be the creation of sage Mahariji. According to legend, when the Guru Gorakhnath stepped inside the cave, he saw three divine emanations; goddess Saraswati, goddess Lakshimi and goddess Durga. It was then that it was decided that this cave should remain dedicated to goddess Durga or Vaishno Mata and it was named Shri Mahadevi Tirth Vaishno Mata Mandir. The goddess is believed to have represented her divine powers by appearing in three different forms. It is said that the idols in the temple represent these three goddesses. The devotees visiting the temple find solace and inner peace in the presence of the holy deity. The devotional ambience of the temple is such that many devotees find themselves talking to the goddess in trance and begging for her divine blessings.
