/Origin Of Sankat Mochan Temple The Sankat Mochan Temple is situated in the city of Shimla in Himachal-Pradesh and it is one of the oldest temples of the state. The temple is said to be constructed by Maharaja Sansar Chand, the king of Kangra, in 1780. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and the word 'Sankat Mochan' means 'remover of troubles'. The temple is located at an altitude of 2170 metres surrounded by trees and greenery all around. Worship Method:

At Sankat Mochan temple, vedic worship methods are observed. Worship begins with the traditional devotional hymns, followed by a recurring pooja involving the offering of coconuts to Lord Hanuman. After the recital of mantras (‘namokar’) and after offering incense, flowers, and fruits in an offering tray (‘mangalasutra’), the devotees attain the divine blessing of Lord Hanuman by performing sankalpam. This process of having darshan of the Lord, accompanied with chanting of Veda mantras is completed with the ‘arati’ (lighting diya, incense) for the Lord, as per vaidik rites.
