History:

is a holy Sikh Gurudwara situated near the banks of the river Beas in the holy city of Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab, India. The same was originally built to commemorate the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji who attained martyrdom while defending the Sikh faith at the hands of the Mughal Empire in the year 1606. The Gurudwara overlooks the Beas river and houses a memorial of Guru Arjun Dev Ji. The main way of worship in a Gurudwara at Shri Shaheed Ganj Sahib is through kirtan. Kirtans are traditionally group singing of devotional hymns, usually in praise of a spiritual leader. People gather in the main hall and sit on the floor as a sign of respect and humbleness while the kirtans are being sung. After the kirtan, there will be a religious discourse by a Granthi (a Sikh teacher) and Guru-ka-Langar (free community meals). Traditionally, people will also give donations to the Gurudwara during the langar, which serves to support the Gurdwara and its mission.
