The Bhutnath Temple in Mandi is one of the main temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The worship method in the temple differs from other temples due to its unique design, as the main deity is installed in an ambulatory manner in the center of the temple. The devotees of the temple have to circumambulate the Bhutanath Shiva Lingam. According to Hindu mythology, each circuit is equivalent to chanting of one Rudraksha mantra. After completing the circumambulation, they offer marigold flowers, vermilion, incense sticks and ‘bel fruit’ to the Lord. They bow in reverence and meditate in the presence of the lord for some time and offer bhajans and dedication prayer to him. Apart from this, devotees also offer jaggery, gheel, puja items, clothes, flowers, sindoor and other offering to the temple deity. Maha Abhishekam is performed during important Hindu festivals.
