The Madagascar Antananarivo Mission Office was established in April 1997 in the wake of changing diplomatic relations between the United States and Madagascar. Relations between the two countries had been strained during the 1990s and culminated in a breakdown of ties in 1995 due to a political conflict in Madagascar. Following a peaceful transition of power in 1997, diplomatic relations were restored and the Madagascar Antananarivo Mission Office was opened shortly thereafter. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Madagascar.
