Evêché de Toamasina In Madagascar is the Catholic diocese located in Toamasina, Madagascar. It was established by Pope Gregory XVI on 8 Apr 1837 as the Diocese of Tamatave in the ecclesiastical province of the Archbishopric of Tuléar. It was renamed as the Diocese of Toamasina on 22 Aug 1951 by Pope Pius XII. The current bishop is Mgr Salomon Ndahimana, M. Afr. It is one of the best churches in Madagascar which you must visit.

History:

Evêché de Toamasina In Madagascar was established by Pope Gregory XVI on 8 April 1837 with the name of Tamatave. The Franciscan Aloysius Maria Hoogerbeets was the first bishop of the diocese. In 1951, the Holy See changed the name of the diocese from Tamatave to Toamasina. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Madagascar.
