It is designed to provide improved access to clean water and sanitation, electrification, and improved access to education and income-generating opportunities for rural communities in Madagascar. The project has been funded and implemented by The Earth Institute and EKAR since 2013 and is an example of successful public-private partnerships to support rural development. The project has improved access to clean drinking water in over 500 villages and improved the standard of living for more than 14,000 people in Madagascar. A key focus of the project is providing access to educational, financial, and economic opportunities which in turn helps to reduce rural poverty and promote gender equity. The project also provides agricultural, environmental and climate change education, which helps to ensure long-term sustainability of the populations and the ecosystems.
