Ambohitsararay is an important village located south of the Mahafaly Plateau in the Fizarandrano district of Toliara Province, Madagascar. This village is the administrative center of the surrounding region and is home to the ruling tribal chief, by whom most of the affairs of this rural district are resolved.

History:
Ambohitsararay was first established in the early 19th century, when the ruling tribal chief – King Andriamanetiarivo – relocated his court to the village in order to escape a series of tribal conflicts in the area. Since then, the village has been the seat of the Mahafaly chiefdom, and major tribal decisions have been made there. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Madagascar.
