The Dominican Church of the Holy Spirit was commissioned by Archbishop Pedro Gonzales de Mendoza, the representative of Pope Martin V, in 1420. The church was initially built in the Gothic style, on the outskirts of Vilnius city. During 1655, the church suffered major damage due to a destructive citywide fire. In the late 18th century, the church was substantially renovated, with some features remaining from the original construction. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Lithuania.
