The Church of Holy Sacrament was originally built on the east bank of the Neris River in the 13th century and was originally named Transfiguration church. During the 15th century a new church was constructed on the site of the old church and was given the current name. The church underwent numerous renovations throughout the centuries. In 1812 the church was defaced and most of its valuables were stolen after the war of 1812. In 1813 the church was renovated and rebuilt with the help of Johannes von Krause, a famous architect. In 1926 the church was repaired again due to damages caused by World War I. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Lithuania.
