began in 1296 A.D. It is the oldest known parish church in the country. The Festgemeinde or “Celebration Church” is a unique tradition in the Liechtensteiner village of Nendeln. Each June, the parishioners of the Church celebrate the Festival of the Ascension of Our Lord with a large celebration that includes marching music, singing, reciting of scriptures, and a massive festive dinner. Although this tradition has been a part of the village since 1296, it is still celebrated to this day. During the celebration, the parishioners the Church performs the Festgemeindemarsch or “Celebration March,” in which the people of the village parade through the streets with bunches of flowers.
