History:
St. Gertrude’s New Church was originally founded in 1630 as a monastery for the Sisters of Mercy. The church was destroyed by a fire in 1663 and was rebuilt in 1711 using the original foundation. In 1895 the church was modified and today it is in its original baroque style. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.
