It began as a Roman Catholic church but switched to Lutheran worship during the Reformation in 1523. The church is known for its Romanesque architecture and Baroque altar pieces. The building was damaged during World War I and underwent extensive renovations between 1940-1944. Today, the church is used as an event and concert venue and is open to the public for viewing.
