Anglikaani Kirik in Latvia is an Anglican Church located in the capital city of Riga. It is part of the the Province of the Baltic Sea in the Anglican Communion. The church was founded in 2006 by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, in response to a growing need for English-speaking services in the city. Since then, it has become a thriving and welcoming place of worship for many in the English-speaking community. History The history of Anglican worship in Latvia dates back to the late 1800s, when Anglicans in the area would meet for worship at a Riga weaver’s house for services due to limited physical premises. Through the early 1900s, the congregation moved around the city before eventually settling down in its permanent home: at Skolas street 27, in what is now a 200-capacity church building. Facts - Anglikaani Kirik in Latvia is the only Anglican church in the entire Baltic region. -The church is staffed by a team of foreign and local volunteer clergy, lay leaders and stewards. -The church has a rich and varied musical tradition, featuring both contemporary and traditional hymns and anthems. Services At Anglikaani Kirik in Latvia, the main Sunday morning services usually follow an Anglican Communion format, with sermons preached by members of the local and foreign clergy. The church also offers various other services throughout the week, including morning prayer on Sundays, and various mid-week services. An infant and toddlers’ Sunday School is held during the Sunday morning family service. Additionally, the church provides several social activities, such as movie nights and potluck dinners, and holds regular events throughout the year, such as concerts and picnics.
