The foundation stone for the new building was laid on June 22nd 1908, by the then-Governor of the British East Africa Protectorate, Sir Edward Northey. Construction occurred over the next several years and the main building was completed in 1932. Over the decades since its opening, the cathedral has been expanded, with the addition of a Nativity chapel, a crypt, a Nave Chapel, and a Chapter House.
