St. Mary's Church of Ireland Church is a Church of Ireland parish located in Rathdrum, County Wicklow, Ireland. It is situated in the valley of the Avonmore River, close to the Wicklow Mountains. The first church at its current location was built in 1826, although the surrounding area has long been associated with the Church of Ireland. The current building dates to around 1860, and has been significantly altered over the years. The church is noted for its wonderful stained glass windows, designed by the renowned artist, Sarah Purser. St. Mary's Church of Ireland Church History The site of the Church of Ireland in Rathdrum has been associated with religious worship since the early medieval period, which was the time of St. Kevin. It is noted that St. Kevin was baptised nearby by St. Cronan. It was during the 18th century that St. Mary's became an official Church of Ireland parish and the first building was constructed, likely sometime between 1790 and 1820. The building was eventually replaced, and the current one was constructed in the 1860s. St. Mary's Church of Ireland Church Facts St. Mary's Church of Ireland Church is noted for its beautiful stained glass windows, which were designed by Sarah Purser, an eminent artist of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The church is set within a graveyard with many interesting old headstones. It is a Grade B building, and is listed on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage. The church hosts regular services throughout the week. St. Mary's Church of Ireland Church Services Sunday services take place at 8.30am, with Sunday School services at 9.30am. Evening services are held at 7.30pm. Mid-week services take place on Thursdays at 10.30am and Thursdays at 7.30pm. Morning prayer is read weekday mornings at 8.30am. Holy Communion is held the first Sunday of the month at 11.00am. The church also hosts special services throughout the year.
