St James' Catholic Church, Charlestown is a historic Roman Catholic Church located in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Built in 1859, the church was the first Roman Catholic church in Charlestown, and is the oldest continuously operating Catholic church in the state. It is the first church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence and an historic parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. It is associated with the Catholic Old Cemeteries of Charlestown, a cemetery established in 1780, and the parish remained active until its closure in 2018. St. James' Catholic Church is a large two-story stone building with a bell tower on the right. Its walls are of local fieldstone but the front of the building is of cut granite. Inside, the building features an impressive altar, six stained glass windows, and a pulpit adorned with six carved images of saints.
