St Brigid's Church was founded in 1931 on land that had previously been part of St. Joseph's Orphanage and was given to the parish by Bishop Michael O'Doherty. The church's original building was designed by architect R.C. Oxley, whose other works include Dublin’s Georgian-style buildings such as the Four Courts and the Royal College of Surgeons. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
