It is located in what is geographically the largest parish in the Church of Ireland, spanning the areas of Sandymount, Irishtown, Ringsend, and Donnybrook. The church is situated on a height overlooking Sandymount Strand and the Irish Sea. It is one of the best churches in Ireland which you must visit.

The original church was built in 1852 and its restoration began in 1994. From 1995 to 2001, a major renovation program was undertaken which restored its historical detail as well as remodeling the internal space to make it more suitable for modern liturgical use. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
