Brief History:
The Jameh Mosque of Yazd (Jadeed) is a grand, immense and renowned structure located in the center of the old city of Yazd in Iran. It was constructed during the Seljuk period (10th century AD) and is considered as a symbol of piety and devotion in the city of Yazd. The mosque has a spacious main prayer hall, and its walls are adorned with marvelous tilework depicting verses from the Quran, floral and geometric patterns. The main gate, on the other hand, is elaborately decorated and stands as an example of Iranian architecture. One of the most unique aspects of the mosque is its tall minaret which stands at the corner of the courtyard. The mosque also houses a large library, contained in a two-storey building at its center. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iran which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Jameh Mosque of Yazd in Iran was originally built in the 8th century and was largely influenced by the Seljuk Empire. The mosque is primarily constructed of brick and comprises two courtyards that are flanked by large iwans. The dome of the mosque features a unique Seljuk architectural element of quatrefoil balconies with a spectacular Kufic inscription in its façade. The rectangular-shaped structure also includes four 90-degree corners and two semicircular iwans, arched ceilings, and Persian-style double-layered entrance gates. The mosque also boasts stunning stained glass windows and intricate stucco, faience, and tilework. Additionally, a wooden minbar, or religious pulpit, is housed in one of the iwans. Above the mosque’s main dome, a double-layered turquoise cupola stands atop a tall shaft, crowning the mosque with its grandeur and beauty. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
The visiting hours of Jameh Mosque of Yazd (Jadeed) in Iran are from 8am to 11.30am and from 2.30pm to 6pm. The mosque is closed on Fridays. best mosque in the world.
