St. Peter the Apostle Cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Pedro Sula and the oldest parish in San Pedro Sula. It was founded in the early 1900s and is the largest of the three diocesan parishes of the diocese. The basilica-style Cathedral features a neoclassical façade and two towers that mark the center of Catholicism in the city. It is one of the best churches in Honduras which you must visit.

History:

The original church, built around 1900, was destroyed in a fire and reconstruction began in 1939. The new church, designed by architect Valentín Sacasa, was completed in a Romanesque-Byzantine style. The current Cathedral was dedicated on May 13, 1956, and its façade was renovated in 2000. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Honduras.
