The worship method of Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Patiala is based on both the Sikh and Hindu traditions. During a visit to the shrine, pilgrims pay their respects by performing a series of rituals. These include offering flowers, lighting incense, circum-ambulating the shrine three times and offering prayers to Goddess Santoshi. The devotee then sits in the center of the shrine and recites Shabads from the Guru Granth Sahib. Simultaneously, seven lamps or earthen burners are lit. The devotee also recites prayers dedicated to the shrine. After the prayers are finished, the devotee can take home any of the offerings as prashad.
