Worship at the Bijli Mahadev Temple in Himachal Pradesh is typically done in the traditional Hindu style. Pilgrims come from all over to visit this temple and offer their prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The morning worship involves offering of flowers, incense, camphor, rice, and a special milk called 'bhog'. After this the priests recite mantras in front of the idol of the deity, which is then anointed with a fortunate vermillion powder. Prasad is then given out to the devotees. In the evening, aarti is performed which involves the chanting of mantras and playing of instruments. After the aarti, special sweets are distributed.
