History:
St. Peter's Basilica is said to be built on the site of the burial ground and shrine of the apostle Saint Peter, where his tomb remains to this day. The first basilica was built by the Emperor Constantine in 326 A.D. and was later reconstructed and extended during the 16th century under the leadership of artists and architects such as Michelangelo and Bramante. The current structure was consecrated by Pope Paul VI in 1964. St. Peter's Basilica This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.

The original design of the basilica was inspired by the ancient Roman Pantheon and is almost two football fields in length, measuring 189 meters. The central dome is the tallest of any church in the world, reaching a height of 136.57 meters.
