This chapel is believed to have been dedicated to St Bartholomew, the patron saint of Goostrey. It is likely that during the 12th century, the chapel was rebuilt in the Norman style and a chancel was added to house the altar. By the 15th century, the structure had grown to include a tower and a nave. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
