Santissimo Sudario all'Argentina is a religious shrine located in Argentina. The shrine was founded in the late 18th century and is dedicated to the Holy Shroud, or Sudario, a cloth in which Christ was wrapped after the crucifixion. It combines elements of Catholicism and indigenous religious practices. The shrine is popularly known as the "Sanctification" of Buenos Aires and is celebrated in an annual festival. The shrine is known for its miracles, such as an image of the face of Christ that appears on a white sheer fabric miraculously found in the sewer of an Argentine hacienda in 1773, and for the many acts of faith exhibited by the faithful. The shrine is under the care of the Franciscan Monastery of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Buenos Aires. Highlights of the shrine include a relic, said to be the original Sudario cloth; a replica of the Holy Shroud of Turin; and a crypt containing the relics of several saints. The Santissimo Sudario also offers religious services and prayers, such as vigil masses, rosaries, and processions.
