Lenin Mausoleum in Moscow is a mausoleum that houses the embalmed body of Vladimir Lenin, leader of the October Revolution and the first leader of the Soviet Union. The mausoleum, located in the Red Square in the center of Moscow, was constructed by the Soviet government in 1924 in time for Lenin's funeral and is currently one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. History:

After Lenin's death in January, 1924, a mausoleum was hastily constructed in the Red Square in order to honor the revolutionary leader. Initially made of wood, the grandiose structure received its permanent stone form, designed by architect Alexey Shchusev, just four months after Lenin’s death. Various modifications followed and in October, 1976, the mausoleum’s appearance was altered to resemble the building prior to its 1930 reconstruction. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.
