It was founded in 1838 and currently comprises 43 congregations totaling more than 10,100 members as of 2021. It is divided into four deaneries for administrative purposes. The current bishop is Rt. The Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas was founded in 1838 as a breakaway faction of the Diocese of Louisiana and was originally known as the Diocese of Arkansas and Western Texas. In 1847, after Texas had become an independent state, the diocese was reorganized and became known as the diocese of Arkansas. The diocese has undergone numerous reorganizations in the intervening years and today consists of 43 parishes in the state. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.
